The city of Aba, in Abia state, like most parts of Nigeria, continue the long battle towards achieving effective waste management. Aba, touted as the industrial and production giant of the country; as most leather works and garment making are carried out in the city, is also known to be one of the dirtiest cities in the country.

Waste burning is one of the steps taken by the people to reduce the humongous pile of waste littered around the city. Though their efforts are well intended, the after effect of continual burning of waste is rather regretful; as there is the aesthetical defacement it causes and could as well lead to other forms of pollution like air and water.
